Booking a Visit
We work out of Needham, about 9 miles from Milton, and roller jobs here get booked onto the truck route rather than handled same-day on a drop-in basis. When you call, tell us the door's age if you know it and whether it's making noise on the way up, catching partway, or grinding at one spot in the track - that tells us whether we're looking at a roller swap or something the roller is just a symptom of. Milton has roughly 9,139 households, and a good share of them are in houses old enough that the rollers have never been touched since the door went up. If your door was installed or last serviced within the last ten or fifteen years, say so - it changes what we bring on the truck. We'd rather show up with the right stem length and bearing type than make you wait on a second trip for a part we could have grabbed the first time. For general door repair rather than a roller job specifically, see our Milton garage door repair page.
Parts We Carry
On a roller call we carry both nylon rollers with sealed bearings and the steel versions, because Milton's median year built sits around 1944 and a surprising number of doors in town are still running on whatever came with the original track - plain steel wheels on a bare stem, no bearing at all. Those wheels are loud, they wear the track unevenly over decades, and once the track grooves get polished smooth, a new roller alone won't quiet the door. We stock standard 2-inch and 4-inch stem lengths and the sealed-bearing nylon rollers that quiet things down and don't need lubrication. What we don't carry is custom track hardware for doors that have been modified or widened from the original opening - that's a special-order item, and we'll tell you up front if your door needs it rather than guess.
How Long It Takes
A straight roller swap on a double door, both sides, sealed-bearing nylon, runs about 45 minutes to an hour once we're set up. Add bracket re-alignment and it's closer to 90 minutes. What we can't give you is a same-day window for Milton specifically - we're routing from Needham, and roller jobs get scheduled alongside the rest of that day's calls rather than treated as a standalone emergency run. If the track itself is bent or the brackets have pulled loose from rotted framing rather than just a loose screw, that's a bigger repair than roller replacement, and we'll say so rather than force a $40 part fix a $400 problem.
